I tend to love hearty contrast (I am certain my love for contrast comes from comic book artists like Jack Kirby and his dynamic way of drawing), heavy shadows filled with grain and have been looking for these qualities in the films I have been shooting recently. It never even crossed my mind that snow could be a possibility when I packed for my visit last month. I didn’t really bring any kind of clothing for such weather and upon landing in January to temperatures in the 10-13c range (50-55f), it felt like spring weather compared to the chilly Warsaw weather I left behind along with the attire to be comfortable in the cold.

I can remember this day quite clearly. March 9th, 2014, Sunday. And cold. In fact, I was looking out the window debating for an hour whether to go out or not, sipping my hot coffee and not wanting to really put the layers on that would be required to stay warm. Back and forth, looking at the cold outside and knowing that it was going to be a fight to stay warm.
